Same idea, same design

I changed my blog design two months ago and I got good reviews on it, and I’m happy about that, but what I don’t like is that “designers” have already start to copy it or parts of it.
I was reading the rss feeds for some css galleries and I got the “beautiful” surprise to find a similar one: http://www.revota.com/. It looks that it’s a web agency that are doing web development and design. Why they didn’t come with some original design? Good question. The background it’s the same, the headlines & links colors are the same, the content areas are the same. And as I see it contains elements from other well know designer that I don’t want to mention.
Johnathan Snook has write about Maintaining your Personal Brand Online, where he talks about why personal brand it’s important and how to do it, but it looks that maintaining a personal brand is complicated. You have to be very creative so that other people don’t “clone” you.

Yes but it’s not about the idea with wood background, it’s about the layout, colors, content ;p
I’m sorry to hear about that, this is 100% rip off. I see this happening more and more often. Many popular websites are being ripped off by “designers” that feel there’s no penalties for their actions. I also have some experience with so called “designers”. Send them an e-mail to change the design or report them to the cssgalleries…
i have visit their site and they are evolving. some of the element you were talking were changed, evolving or they have known that you saw them :D
but i think they are evolving, i read on their article about the site is under development and they will released on april 1st.

I think you are getting a nice compliment if they are in fact copying you. Build a reputation of designs that get copied and you might sell templates - that is a personal brand.
Good design immitate. Great design innovate.
Good design like your site and the others (mention by Mike) do immitate, and the other job is “optimized” what you’ve done. In functionality i do feel revota have improved your design. What i’m trying to say is, your design, that revota guys and the others have enrich the “nature” style design, push them to the limit.

Ready or not the design industry era is coming. And it would be more and more copycat than yesterday. The winner is the one with uniqueness. And it’s an honor for you that you have a “free” clone.

Yes, if you check the website you will see that they changes the color and some elements today ….
This happens so much and it sucks. I’m glad to see you got attention to this. People should be called out for copying.

Blah, your wood background is another rip from http://www.shanemielke.com/graphics_06/bg_wood.jpg with a little editing using brightness & contrast, they know about that anyway.
The other website, although having wooden background rounded boxes and black colors is not identical to your website. You could say it was inspired by your website but certainly it is not same. At least that my viewing of the website today, 2nd of April 08.
You cannot copyright the rounded boxes and wooden background. This guy’s wooded background is back and different from yours. So you have nothing to complain about I am afraid.
Ok, if you read the comments below you will see that people actually agree with me. They have changed the colors after this post.
